I have from a very early age been driven by social and planetary justice, having always had a keen sense of the intrinsic value of all living beings. These principles inspired my choice of careers in Psychology and Public Health and informed the advocacy and activist work I do. Advocacy was also often directly related to the formal work I was doing, especially in Public Health. I began in Psychology with the idea that that was where I could best contribute. Circumstances led me thereafter into Public Health where the prospect of impacting health and wellbeing at the population—as opposed to the individual—level aligned with my values and motivation to help engender positive change in the world. In this respect Public Health was richly satisfying to work in and I remain passionate about its role in our society, and personally committed to supporting its endeavours.
Who I am and how I came to offer this service
Crucially for me, in terms of what I now feel called to offer in the way of therapy, was my own journey of ongoing self-development and healing that developed alongside and was inspired at times by my career. This includes informal study and ongoing practice of the principles of Buddhist Psychology; individual therapy; group therapy; ‘sharing circles’; conscious dance; and importantly, yoga and meditation practice.
Over time it has become clear to me that many of the biggest challenges we face as a society, the causes of those conditions, and their solutions, require all the types of knowledge and scholarly disciplines we have available to us as a society, yes, but importantly they also require individual inner work.
Individual work is required both because of these broader challenges and to prevent further destruction to ourselves, to others, to the planet, to all living beings. Our own pain and confusion often create the conditions for exacerbating pain in ourselves and in the world around us.
Understanding our own difficulties and continuously fostering our highest possibilities for human development is necessary to reduce suffering and bring healing for the benefit of ourselves and for all beings.
